About Us

Matt Dowdy, ACF, started Dowdy’s Forest & Land Management, LLC in January of 2007 as a full service forest consulting firm with an eye towards thinking outside the box. His family owns almost 580 acres of timberland in Louisa County, Virginia that they actively manage for timber, wildlife & recreation. Upon purchasing this land, he realized that the wildlife & recreation objectives were just as important as timber production & that there were many other landowners who felt the same way that he did. This is the influence that he uses to run his business.

Matt is a 1992 graduate of Virginia Tech with a B.S. in forest business. He has 28 years of forestry consulting experience, and remains an active leader and linch pin in many forestry and natural resource associations, including the Association of Consulting Foresters, the Society of American Foresters, the Virginia Forestry Association, the Quality Deer Management Association, and the American Tree Farm System.

He is also a proud supporter of Louisa Little League Baseball & Log-A-Load For Kids, associated with the Children’s Miracle Network.

In his spare time, he likes to hunt, fish, cook BBQ, watch Hokie football and collect vintage forestry & forest fire items.
